PART ONE - SELECTION
1. Select a piece of writing to make into a podcast. This MUST be posted on the internet, you must provide a link to the written story. This can be written by you, written by another author, or a story from our Volunteer Your Story subforum. If you use the latter, please follow the rules in that forum.
2. Acquire the author's permission to podcast their story on FanFiction AudioBooks.
3. Make sure you have read both the Content Rules and the Ratings/Warnings. If the story violates any of the conditions in the Content Rules, you unfortunately cannot podcast it.
PART TWO - RECORDING
4. If you don't already have a recording program like Audacity, Goldwave or Garage band, download and install one one. Audacity is free, and you can download it here
5. Before you start to record, check your mic levels. Every microphone is different, but you almost never will have the mic settings all the way up (on a PC, that's mic boost and mic levels). A good way to test your levels is to record yourself speaking, then listen back to it. If it sounds crackly or distorted, bring your mic boost or levels down.
6. Open up a new project (or similar, if not using Audacity), and hit record. In audacity, it's a big red dot button. Now it's time to start recording!
7. Please include a line at the beginning of your submission stating:
8. Follow this with an introduction, something like:
9. Read the story. If you make a mistake, that's absolutely fine, we all do! Just leave a few seconds silence, and start reading that paragraph or sentence again.
10. After you've read the story, go back to where you need to edit parts out. Select a piece and press delete on the keyboard to delete in Audacity (tutorial here). If you find editing too difficult, you are welcome to utilise the editors we have on site, located here.
PART THREE - EXPORTING AND UPLOADING
11. Go to file and export the file as an OGG or MP3. Using Audacity, you won't be able to save as an MP3 unless you have the MP3 encoder. Visit their website for more information.
12. Upload the file to a file sharing site like sendspace, fileswap, 2shared and gamefront or other similar sites.
Some sites (gamefront/filefront, for example) delete files after a few days, so make sure to have a saved copy of your podcast just in case.
PART FOUR - SUBMITTING
13. Submit your podcast here.
If you have any questions about recording a podcast or submitting it, please PM a staff member.
